Sam Schmidt, PT, MPT, NCPI is a physical therapist, business owner, educator, and healthcare advocate with over 20 years of experience advancing innovative care models at the intersection of clinical practice, business leadership, and public policy. She is co-owner of Alpine Physical Therapy, a six-location outpatient practice in Missoula, Montana, where she treats a broad patient population while leading care delivery innovation in a rapidly evolving healthcare environment. Sam is known for translating complex challenges into practical, scalable solutions that improve access, outcomes, and efficiency. Her clinical work emphasizes early intervention, movement-based care, and pain science to reduce unnecessary healthcare utilization and support timely return to function. Beyond the clinic, Sam has led meaningful systems-level change through advocacy and innovation. As Legislative Chair for APTA Montana, she helped lead successful efforts to recognize physical therapists as treating physicians within the Montana workers’ compensation system, improving early access to care for injured workers. In 2025, she was elected Co-Chair of the APTA Primary Care Physical Therapy Special Interest Group, contributing to national initiatives focused on access, autonomy, and value-based care. She was also awarded the APTA Private Practice Section Community Impact Award in 2023 for her leadership and contributions to the profession.
